Congress Bats Kids Tee

Calculated at Checkout

Austin’s Congress Avenue Bridge is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. Strange but true! Anywhere between 750,000 to 1.5 million bats chillax there from spring to fall, flying out every sundown to feast. In celebration of these weird/amazing creatures, we printed them onto one of our softer-than-bat-fur children’s tees. We also compiled some highly accurate bat facts for you:

  • Bats are mammals.

  • Austin’s bats consume up to 30,000 pounds of insects PER NIGHT! You’re slacking, frogs.

  • The Ice Bats were the city’s former minor league hockey team, known for leading the league in fights and selling some of the cheapest beer in town.

  • It’s offensive to use the phrase “blind as a bat” around bats. Totally uncool.

  • Popular places to watch the bats emerge include on the bridge itself, the Austin American Statesman’s public viewing area, bat-watching cruises, and the roof of my cousin Steve’s garage apartment.
